Kathmandu, June 26
The National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority (NDRRMA) has warned of the possibility of a heat wave in this monsoon.
The authority has asked people to stay alert as a heat wave is imminent during the monsoon. It did say the heat wave will be shorter compared to the pre-monsoon period.
Anil Pokhrel, the chief executive officer of the Authority, predicts below-average rainfall and hotter days than usual for this monsoon season.
Due to low rainfall and heat waves, agricultural output is anticipated to be below average this year.
There is a potential risk of waterborne and communicable diseases during the monsoon season, emphasising the need for public health awareness and caution.
During the rainy season, various health issues such as jaundice, cholera, diarrhoea, respiratory illnesses, malaria, dengue, influenza, and flu-like illnesses have historically been prevalent.
The data shows that the country reports around 500 deaths from cholera, kala-azar diarrhoea and snakebites in monsoon each year.
