Taskforce proposes to increase milk prices by Rs 10 per litre

The task force formed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Livestock Development has urged the ministry to raise the price of milk by Rs 10 per litre. The task force formed on August 14 submitted its report to Minister Chakra Pani Khanal.

DDC Managing Director Babu Kaji Panta confirmed that he had proposed the ministry to raise the price of milk but he didn’t say by how much. Of the newly increased price, 69 per cent will go to the farmers while 31 per cent will go to the businesspersons. The task force in its report has also added a provision to have two different prices of processed milk. During the lean season, the price will be increased by Rs 10 whereas, during the flush season, the proposed increase in price is Rs 5.28.

Pant and Achyara vying for NRNA leadership

As NRNA election nears, current vice presidents Kumar Manta and Kul Acharya have stepped up their effort to become the body’s next president. Both have been attending convention by the National Coordination Council to stake their claim on the position. Even though both are keen on the position, none have announced that they will be contesting for the post. Both have been meeting NRNA members throughout the world.

Police refuse to take complain of woman beaten up in land dispute

Kailali Police have refused to take a complaint filed by a woman who was beaten up in a land dispute. Ram Janaki Chaudhari claims that neighbours Markand Chaudhary, Yam Bahadur Chaudhari and Laxmi Chaudhary beat her up. Ram Janaki has been injured in the incident and is being treated at Seti Hospital in Kailali. She regained consciousness after 40 days informed her husband.

Police, however, have refused to file a complaint of attempt to murder saying that there isn’t sufficient proof of the incident happening. District Police, however, said that as the couple didn’t have proof, they suggested that they file an assault complaint.

Local govts do not have the right to take foreign help: Minister Pandit

Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit has said that the local and provincial governments didn’t have the right to seek foreign help.  Minister Pandit said that the local and provincial government were seeking unnecessary power. He said that they had yet to make use of their current power and added that they will not be handed more power until they prove themselves.

Rs 70 million spent on fuel and repairs by Province 1

Province 1 government has spent over Rs 70 million on fuels and repairs of vehicles in the past fiscal year. It has spent Rs 35 million on fuel and Rs 35 million on repairs. The price has significantly increased as Province 1 had only spent a little over Rs 10 million in the last fiscal year. Province 1 has allocated around Rs 90 million for the same for fiscal year 2019/20.

Pokhara buses start e-ticketing service

Buses in Pokhara have started e-ticketing services from Monday. Passengers using the city’s bus service will have to do so by buying a ticket. Pokhara Metropolitan City has started handing out smart cards to passengers. The responsibility of handing out the cards has been given to Om Development Bank which aims to hand over 300,000 cards in the next four years. PMC has also given a month-long training to bus operators on who to use the e-ticketing system.

KMC gives 15-day ultimatum to cinema halls to pay entertainment tax

Kathmandu Metropolitan City has given a 15-day ultimatum to movie halls and multiplexes to pay entertainment tax. KMC states that most movies halls in Kathmandu have not been paying entertainment tax. There are 42 movie halls in Kathmandu out of which only four had paid entertainment tax. The halls have been taking entertainment tax from customers.

Police say they will look into Paras Shah case

Nepal Police says that it has started investigating the case at Tribhuvan International Airport where former crown prince Paras Shah misbehaved with a police officer. Shah had misbehaved with sub-inspector Ishwar Khatri on Sunday. Rani Pokhari Police Chief Sailesh Thapa says that he has asked for a detailed report of the incident from airport police after which the investigation will move forward.

Khatri, however, has not filed a complaint against Shah.
