Minister collecting ‘donations’ to host PM’s event

Lila Nath Shrestha is founding writing to district officials of Siraha seeking donations to organise a party event on Monday, February 1, 2021.

A cabinet minister has been found collecting ‘donations’ from local government officials of Siraha district of southeastern Nepal for an event which Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli is addressing.

Oli is participating in an event organised on the occasion of the death anniversary of a local party leader, Hem Narayan Yadav, in the district headquarters on Monday.

Law, Justice and Parliamentary Affairs Minister Lila Nath Shrestha has been found collecting donations for the event. Shrestha is the Siraha district in-charge of the Oli-led faction of the Nepal Communist Party.

Onlinekhabar has obtained a copy of the letter sent to local government officials.

Although the letter does not mention the amount the officials are told to pay, an official reveals the minister has sought Rs 50,000 from him.
