Market turnover rises despite decline in NEPSE index

The Nepal Stock Exchange (NEPSE) index fell by 5 points on Wednesday, settling at 2,566, after gaining 62 points in the previous trading session.

During the day, the index briefly crossed the 2,600-point mark at 11:46 am and 12:21 pm but failed to sustain the level. Despite the decline in the index, total market turnover increased to Rs 5.45 billion, up from Rs 4.57 billion the previous day.

Prices of 85 companies rose, 159 declined, and 6 remained unchanged. The hotel and tourism sector rose by 2.15 per cent, trading by 2 per cent, and hydropower by 0.01 per cent. Meanwhile, the ‘Others’ group dropped by 1.20 per cent, banking by 0.34 per cent, development banks by 0.91 per cent, finance by 0.77 per cent, investment by 0.17 per cent, life insurance by 0.64 per cent, manufacturing and processing by 0.28 per cent, and non-life insurance by 0.19 per cent.

Two companies Upakar Laghubitta and Khanikhola Hydropower gained the maximum 10 per cent. Likewise, Manushi Laghubitta rose by 9.91 per cent, Himalayan Power Partner by 8.74 per cent, and Asha Laghubitta by 7.68 per cent.

On the other hand, Panchakanya Mai Hydropower declined by 3.69 per cent and Synergy Power by 3.21 per cent. The top five most actively traded companies of the day were Union Hydropower, NRN Infrastructure, Butwal Power, Radhi Hydropower, and Himalayan Reinsurance.
