Kathmandu, September 28
Police have arrested a man accused of claiming close ties with people associated with Home Minister Sudan Gurung and using those alleged connections in phone conversations to negotiate deals.
The arrested man has been identified as 37-year-old Dharmaraj Malla, also known as Ashish Malla, of Nepalgunj Sub-Metropolitan City-4, Banke. A team from the Kathmandu District Police Range arrested him.
An audio recording had surfaced in which Malla and another person allegedly claimed to have connections with people close to the home minister while negotiating a deal.
According to Dan Bahadur Thapa, superintendent of police and spokesperson for the Kathmandu District Police Range, Malla was also found to have six cases registered against him.
Thapa said Malla was arrested after police questioned him about the authenticity of the audio recording and he allegedly behaved indecently toward the police during the inquiry.
Police have obtained a two-day remand to investigate him on a charge of indecent behaviour.
According to police, a case has been filed against Malla in Banke under the Telecommunications Act, in which he is a fugitive.
Police said three other cases of indecent behaviour, one fraud case and one banking offence case have also been registered against him in Banke.
