Baitadi, July 11

The rapid spread of lumpy skin disease has taken a heavy toll on livestock in Baitadi district.

According to the officials at the Veterinary Hospital and Livestock Service Center, the disease has escalated beyond control. Furthermore, they expressed concern over the unavailability of vaccines at present.

Livestock Development Officer at the Center, Dr Bishal Pathak, said more than 64,000 domestic animals have been infected from lumpy skin disease. He said over 9,000 animals had already died of the infection.

“The cases are increasing every day. The district does not have vaccines which is create more problems,” he said.

Reports indicate that the disease has rapidly spread throughout all 84 wards in the district and has taken the form of an epidemic.
