Bajura, September 7
Rain-triggered landslides have disrupted road transportation and electricity supply in Bajura, affecting daily life across the district.
The Sanfe-Martadi road, the main road connecting the district headquarters Martadi with other areas, has remained blocked for two days after landslides occurred at several locations in Badimalika Municipality-9, including Karagar Mod, Binod Smriti Pratikshalaya, Selagad and Suwakandh.
According to the District Police Office, efforts to clear the debris began on Sunday using a JCB excavator but were halted after heavy rain resumed. Road clearance resumed Monday with a JCB and an excavator mobilised by the Department of Roads. Vehicles travelling to and from Martadi have remained stranded.
Electricity supply has also been disrupted after landslides brought down around 32 poles of the national transmission line. Seven poles were destroyed at Suwakandh, while another 25 fell at Birekhola in the Nunepani area.
The Nepal Electricity Authority has deployed technicians to repair the damaged infrastructure, with security personnel assisting the effort.
Meanwhile, landslides in Badimalika-8 and 9 damaged two houses and several sheds. Chief District Officer Dorendra Niraula has inspected the affected areas and is coordinating efforts to restore road and power services.
