The Mustang Customs Office at the Korala border has collected Rs 1.78 billion in revenue in just 15 days, as the closure of the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border has increased the flow of goods entering Nepal through Mustang.
The Nepal-China customs office, located at Lomanthang-4, Nhechung, at the Korala border point, has witnessed a sharp rise in customs activity following floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa that disrupted the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border point.
According to Mustang Customs Office Chief Bidur Chudal, the complete closure of the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border has led to a significant increase in Chinese goods being imported through Korala.
The customs office collected Rs 270 million in revenue on a single day last Friday.
Chudal said the office has been collecting around Rs 300 million in daily revenue since September 7 and expects the trend to continue.
On Friday alone, customs officials processed 71 containers and 106 electric vehicles (EVs) bound for different destinations across Nepal.
Since the closure of the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border, a total of 434 containers and 641 electric vehicles entering Nepal through the Korala border have been processed by the Mustang Customs Office.
The increase in imports through Korala has turned the previously less-busy border point into a major revenue-generating customs hub for Nepal.
