Kathmandu, October 16

The Kathmandu Metropolitan City (KMC) has intensified market monitoring during the festive season.
KMC, in coordination with the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control, has begun inspections across the city. During the monitoring of small hotels and restaurants operating in New Baneshwor, the joint team found that most businesses were running below the required standards, according to KMC officials.

Nur Nidhi Neupane, Chief of the KMC Agriculture and Livestock Department, said that directives had been issued to businesses operating illegally to comply with the rules. He warned that legal action would be taken against those failing to follow the directives.

Neupane added that entrepreneurs have a responsibility to maintain hygiene, as even minor negligence could lead to the spread of various infectious diseases.

KMC Food Hygiene and Quality Programme Advisor Santosh Giri stated that KMC has now prioritized empowerment, market monitoring, and regulation. He reiterated that the metropolis would take action against those operating without meeting the prescribed standards.
