Kishor Shrestha, editor-in-chief of the weekly newspaper Jana Astha, was taken to the Cyber Bureau of Nepal Police on Friday for discussion following a complaint filed against him.

A Cyber Bureau team reached Shrestha’s residence in Nakkhu, Lalitpur, on Friday morning and took him to the bureau’s office.

A senior source at the bureau told Onlinekhabar that Shrestha had been brought in for discussion after a complaint was filed against him.

“He was brought in for discussion following a direct complaint against him,” the source said.

Himesh Pant, a central committee member of the Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), had filed a complaint against Shrestha at the Cyber Bureau on Thursday over a news report.

Shrestha has also filed a complaint against Pant at the bureau. According to bureau sources, police are preparing to hold discussions with both parties.

Shrestha was arrested in August

Shrestha was previously arrested by Kathmandu Police on August 12. Police had searched his residence and seized electronic devices, including laptops and computers.

Following the filing of a habeas corpus petition, the Supreme Court ordered authorities to release Shrestha and continue the investigation while keeping him under attendance requirements or on a date-based appearance arrangement.

He was subsequently released from custody on August 18.

The latest development comes as police prepare to facilitate discussions between Shrestha and Pant over their respective complaints.
