Kathmandu, September 25
Kabir Maharjan, the mechanical supervisor who was rescued alive after spending 10 days trapped inside a tunnel at the Upper Trishuli 3-A Hydropower Project in Rasuwa, has been discharged from hospital.
Maharjan was discharged on Friday after his health improved significantly. He was welcomed at his residence in Lalitpur following his release.
Maharjan had been trapped inside the hydropower project’s tunnel after a devastating flood struck the area on August 26. His rescue became a subject of widespread attention both in Nepal and internationally.
After spending 10 days trapped in the darkness of the tunnel, battling uncertainty and difficult conditions, Maharjan was brought out alive by a joint rescue team comprising personnel from the Nepali Army, Nepal Police and Armed Police Force.
He was admitted to hospital following the rescue, where doctors closely monitored his condition.
According to hospital sources, Kabir Maharjan gradually recovered after enduring prolonged physical and psychological stress.
When he was discharged on Friday, he appeared fully conscious and in good health.
As Maharjan travelled from Kathmandu towards his residence in Lalitpur after leaving the hospital, local residents in several places welcomed him with flower garlands and wished him a speedy recovery.
Maharjan expressed his gratitude to the rescuers who, he said, gave him a new lease on life, as well as to the health workers involved in his treatment.
