Journo Dinesh Sitaula passes away

Kathmandu, February 1

Dinesh Sitaula, the former president of the Film Journalists Association of Nepal, has died. Grande Hospital said in a statement that he passed away at 12:45 p.m. on Sunday.

Sitaula collapsed suddenly while participating in an election campaign in Achham in support of Balen Shah, a senior leader of the Rastriya Swatantra Party and the former mayor of Kathmandu.

He was immediately airlifted to Kathmandu by an army helicopter and admitted to Grande Hospital.

In its statement, the hospital said that despite 48 hours of intensive care, there was no improvement in his neurological condition and no indication of recovery of brain function. His family was counselled in detail about his condition. In accordance with medical protocol, an apnea test was conducted to assess brain function, which returned positive, indicating the absence of spontaneous breathing. He was pronounced dead at 12:45 p.m.

According to the hospital, Sitaula had suffered a subarachnoid haemorrhage.
