Kathmandu, September 11
Indian pharmaceutical company USV Pharma has provided Rs 1.5 million in assistance for victims of the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli floods. USV contributed to the Nepal Medical Association’s relief campaign.
The Nepal Medical Association said the funds would be used to provide essential supplies to individuals from severely flood-affected, poor families.
A memorandum of cooperation was exchanged between Nepal Medical Association President Dr Badri Rijal and USV Pharmaceuticals’ Chief Business Officer Mahidwaj Sisodia at a programme organised in Kathmandu on Thursday.
Dr Rijal, president of the Medical Association, said affected families would be provided with bedding, blankets, solar lights and mobile-charging facilities, and drinking water and sanitation supplies. He said essential household items, medicines and health-related supplies would also be distributed.
According to Dr Rijal, USV Pharma’s assistance is expected to directly benefit around 1,500 people from about 300 households in flood-affected areas.
Members of the Medical Association are visiting affected areas to identify local needs. Dr Rijal said relief programmes would be carried out based on recommendations from the monitoring team sent to the field. He also said there were plans to build around 300 temporary shelters for families that had been left homeless.
Mahidwaj S. Sisodia, Chief Business Officer of USV Pharmaceuticals, said supporting affected communities during times of disaster was an important part of the company’s social responsibility.
