Government feels Biplav, CK Raut a threat when it comes to holding polls, implementing Constitution

Kathmandu, February 2

Nepal Police has started collecting information on cadres of the Biplav-led CPN-Maoist after launching a crackdown on followers and cadres of CK Raut in the wake of his arrest.

This comes at a time when the Maoist party is threatening to wage an armed struggle. Police fear that Maoist cadres may resort to violent activities during upcoming elections.

The Ministry of Home Affairs has written to police offices based in Terai-Madhesh districts, directing them to send in lists of Raut and the Maoist party’s local committee members.

‘There’s no presence of Biplav Maoists in Siraha, though there’s sizeable presence of Raut followers in the district’

Siraha police has written to NP headquarters stating that there’s no presence of the Maoist party in Siraha, though there’s sizeable presence of Raut followers in the district.

‘In Hill districts, Biplav Maoists are active. Police are collecting details of  Biplav cadres’

However, in Hill districts, Biplav Maoists are active, a police source said, adding that police are collecting details of  Biplav cadres.

The government analysis is that CK Raut and Biplav Maoists pose a major challenge when it comes to implementing the Constitution and conducting elections. That’s why the ministry has stepped up vigil on caders of Raut and the Maoist party.
