Former State Minister Ram Chandra Raya’s murder case

Kathmandu, July 22

On the night of the murder of former State Minister Ram Chandra Raya in Sarlahi, it has been revealed that three men visited his home.

A police officer involved in the investigation disclosed that a group of three men arrived at Raya’s home around 9:30 pm. Raya, who was killed at his residence in Chandranagar Rural Municipality-1, had returned home from a religious ceremony around 8:30 pm.

According to police sources, Raya was living with another individual, Ram Uden Raya, who worked for him. Around 9:30 pm, three men came to Raya’s home and asked when he would resolve their land dispute.

The investigation suggests that the three men had a land dispute issue. In response, the 80-year-old former State Minister assured them that he would look into it, as reported by Ram Uden to the police. Ram Uden also stated that he offered water to the three visitors.

Raya reportedly asked Ram Uden to sleep in another room after deciding to let the three men stay at his home. Ram Uden, now in police custody, said he heard the four men discussing the land dispute as he went to sleep.

Ram Uden stated that he found the door to Raya’s room open when he woke up to use the restroom and saw Raya lying in a pool of blood. After discovering Raya in a lifeless state, he immediately informed the relatives.

DIG of Madhesh Province, Yagya Binod Pokharel, said that Ram Uden is currently being questioned. The police suspect that the three men who visited Raya’s home that night might have been responsible for the murder. The preliminary investigation indicates that Raya was killed using a domestic weapon.

Raya’s body has been sent to Malangwa for post-mortem examination. Raya served as the State Minister of Land Management from the Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) 30 years ago.
