Bulldozers to clear encroached Guthi land in Janakpur from Saturday

Janakpur, August 21

Authorities will begin using bulldozers from Saturday to clear encroached Guthi land in Janakpur, starting with encroachments around ponds.

Janak Pokharel, member-secretary of the implementation committee formed to protect Guthi land and remove encroachments, said the first phase will focus on clearing encroached pond areas.

The committee had issued a notice on July 17 asking people to vacate encroached Guthi land. Public announcements are also being made in the areas concerned on Friday.

According to Pokharel, 50 ponds identified as having been encroached upon will be cleared in the first phase.

The committee has divided the eviction drive into phases, with ponds to be cleared first, followed by temple premises and other encroached Guthi land.

The committee is basing the drive on a report prepared by a task force led by Bhojraj Ghimire in 2005 to identify encroached Guthi land in Janakpur.

Bulldozers will begin clearing the encroached area around Gordhoi Pokhari from Saturday, marking the start of the first phase of the campaign.
