Loss and Damage Fund responds to Nepal’s request for emergency assistance
The Fund for Responding to Loss and Damage has responded to Nepal’s request for emergency financial assistance following the devastating floods in Rasuwa. Nepal had written to the board of the UN climate change-related fund on September 1, arguing that climate change had contributed to the floods that struck Rasuwa on August 26 and requesting immediate financial support. Government officials said the board’s response was received a week later.
Nepal estimates Rs 723 billion needed to rebuild after Rasuwa floods
The Nepal government has estimated that Rs 723.31 billion will be required for reconstruction and recovery following the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River in Rasuwa on August 26. According to a Rapid Damage and Needs Assessment report prepared by a joint technical team involving the National Planning Commission and the National Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Authority, infrastructure recovery alone will require Rs 473.57 billion.
