Parliamentary climate committee begins work under Ganesh Parajuli
Ganesh Parajuli has been unanimously elected chair of the parliamentary special committee formed to study the impact of climate change in the Himalayas, climate justice and the Bhotekoshi-Trishuli disaster. Parajuli was elected during a meeting on Wednesday and has since assumed responsibility for the committee.

Bhotekoshi flood: 1,454 bodies recovered, 4,718 still missing
A total of 1,454 bodies of people reported missing in the August 26’s Bhotekoshi flood have been recovered as of Tuesday, according to the Nepal Police. According to data released by the Police Headquarters, 236 bodies were recovered in Rasuwa district, 24 in Nuwakot, 72 in Dhading, 369 in Chitwan, 79 in Gorkha, 38 in Tanahun, 232 in Nawalparasi East and 222 in Nawalparasi West.
Half of global wealth held by 1.5% of richest, concentrated in US and China
Although personal wealth continues to rise worldwide, the gap between the rich and poor is widening. According to the Global Wealth Report 2026 published by Swiss bank UBS, nearly half (48.4 per cent) of the world’s total personal wealth is concentrated in the hands of just 1.5 per cent of the wealthiest people.
Government works to manage winter electricity in Kathmandu
The devastating Bhotekoshi River flood damaged various hydropower projects, taking 430 megawatts of electricity off the national transmission system. The government has since moved to arrange alternative management, officials at the Ministry of Energy, Water Resources and Irrigation said.
Supreme Court seeks reasons for arrest of Durga Prasai
The Supreme Court has ordered the Nepal Police Cyber Bureau to explain the reasons for the arrest of activist Durga Prasai. A bench of Justice Hari Phuyal issued a show-cause order directing the Cyber Bureau to submit the reasons for Prasai’s arrest within 48 hours. Prasai was most recently arrested on September 28.
Rara noodles found below quality standards, department orders recall
Rara, a popular instant noodle brand sold in Nepal, has been found to be below the required quality standards, according to the Department of Food Technology and Quality Control. The department has directed the company producing the noodles to recall the products already distributed in the market and completely stop their further sale and distribution.
