The government of Nepal has mobilised Nepal Police personnel to guard medical oxygen production factories and ensure their fair distribution across the country.

As the number of Covid-19 cases is surging across the country, there are fears if the country would enter a shortage of oxygen as in India. The demand for life-saving gas has increased significantly in the recent few days.

As the industrialists say they can produce sufficient oxygen but need to work on the supply management, the Ministry of Home Affairs has decided to mobilise police also in their support, informs the ministry’s information officer Khum Kanta Acharya.

Chief district officers of all the districts have been instructed to provide the companies with as many police staffers as they demand, according to him.

Before this, the Department of Industry had requested the ministry to provide security to the oxygen producers and suppliers as the fear of untoward incidents has risen along with the demand.

There are 20 oxygen production companies in Nepali including eight in the Kathmandu valley.
