The Nepali Congress is preparing to finalise a new date for its 15th general convention today.
An office-bearer said the Central Office team will hold an informal meeting today to finalise the new date.
The office-bearer told Onlinekhabar this morning, “We are consulting on a new date for the convention; the Central Office team will meet and finalise it today.”
Congress had earlier decided to hold the 15th general convention from October 2 to 5. Invitations had already been sent to leaders of various political parties for the event.
However, continuous rain, floods and landslides from September 24 to 27 affected lower-level conventions. Preparations are underway to push the general convention back by a few days.
With major festivals such as Dashain, Tihar and Chhath approaching, leaders of the Congress establishment faction say a decision on whether to hold it before or after those festivals will be finalised today.
However, another leader said, “There is informal discussion in the party over whether to push it back by just a day or two, not many days.”
The Sher Bahadur Deuba-led faction outside the establishment has also begun preparing to hold a separate 15th general convention of its own in the coming month of Mangsir.
