The Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank have announced a multi-phase relief and rehabilitation programme worth approximately Rs 150 million for communities affected by the devastating floods in Rasuwa and Nuwakot.
The programme will focus on immediate relief, temporary housing, healthcare and long-term rehabilitation of flood-affected communities.
Under the first phase, the organisations will distribute food, drinking water, clothes, tarpaulins, personal hygiene products and other essential supplies to affected families. Relief supplies began reaching affected areas on August 27, with employees of the foundation and bank mobilised to support the distribution.
Two relief camps will also be established in Nuwakot and Rasuwa in coordination with local administrations. The camps will provide daily meals, clean drinking water, sanitation facilities and safe spaces for children.
The Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank will also work with Dhulikhel Hospital to operate health camps providing primary healthcare and disease-prevention services in the affected areas.
The second phase will involve constructing 500 temporary housing units for families whose homes were completely destroyed or made uninhabitable by the floods.
The temporary shelters will be built in coordination with the federal and local governments and will provide affected families with safe and dignified accommodation until permanent reconstruction is completed. The organisations said the shelters will use technology previously deployed by the Chaudhary Foundation during earthquake relief efforts.
The programme will also support the construction of permanent shelters and essential community infrastructure in affected areas.
As part of its long-term health initiative, the foundation and bank will collaborate with Dhulikhel Hospital to establish a Center for Infectious Disease Prevention and Control. The centre will focus on disease surveillance, preventive healthcare, public awareness and strengthening institutional capacity to respond to infectious diseases and outbreaks following floods and other disasters.
Nirvana Chaudhary, chairman of the Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, said the organisations’ immediate priority was to protect lives and provide food, shelter and healthcare to affected families.
“Our responsibility should not be limited to emergency relief,” Chaudhary said. “Through this partnership between Chaudhary Foundation and Nabil Bank, we are committed to the entire journey from rescue and relief to temporary shelter, permanent rehabilitation, and strong public health preparedness.”
Officials from the foundation and bank will coordinate with the government, local administrations, security agencies, health workers, community organisations and volunteers to ensure assistance reaches the most affected and vulnerable families.
The organisations said the initiative is intended to support the government’s relief and rehabilitation efforts and help affected communities recover and become more resilient to future disasters.
