Four people have been arrested on charges of snatching a pedestrian’s chain in Lokanthali, Madhyapur Thimi Municipality-1, Bhaktapur.
Those arrested are 32-year-old Yogendra Tamang of Ramprasad Rai Rural Municipality-2, Bhojpur; 40-year-old Milan BK of the same rural municipality, ward 6; 36-year-old Debendra Thapa Magar, known as “Kale,” of Doramba Rural Municipality-3, Ramechhap; and 40-year-old Indian national Sanjit Samnat. They were arrested by a team from the Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office.
Police said the group snatched the chain of a person walking near Lokanthali around 2 pm on August 11. A similar robbery had also occurred in Lokanthali on July 15 using the same method.
Police said the group specifically targeted women and elderly citizens for chain snatching. According to police, two of them would ride up on a motorcycle, snatch the chain, and flee.
Among those arrested, Yogendra was the one driving the motorcycle. Kale was the person who sat on the back and snatched the chains. Milan and Sanjit, police said, were the ones who bought the stolen gold.
