BellyDance Nepal all set for Natya Utsav 3.0

Kathmandu, March 19

BellyDance Nepal is set to stage what is being described as Nepal’s largest belly dance production, Natya Utsav 3.0, a cultural performance inspired by the music of Sujan Chapagain.

The event will be held on March 20 at Rastriya Naach Ghar, bringing together music and dance in a theatrical tribute to Chapagain’s emotionally driven songs.

According to the organiser, the production is the first of its kind in Nepal to present a belly dance interpretation of Chapagain’s music. The show blends Nepali melodies with authentic Oriental belly dance and other dance styles, transforming popular songs into visual narratives through choreography and stage storytelling.

A total of 28 dancers, including both seasoned performers and students, will take part in the production. Organisers say the initiative also aims to provide a platform for emerging dancers to gain experience in large-scale stage performances.

One of the major highlights of the evening will be a choreography set to Chapagain’s song “Eklai Bhayeni,” which will present an emotionally layered performance through contemporary belly dance, supported by elaborate costumes and dynamic staging.

Pinky Sapkota, founder, director and choreographer of BellyDance Nepal, said the production seeks to translate the emotional depth of Chapagain’s music into movement and visual expression. Sapkota brings over two decades of experience in dance and has been leading the organisation since its establishment in 2021.

Natya Utsav 3.0 marks the third edition of the Natya Utsav series, following two previous productions that focused on storytelling through dance and music.

Based in Kathmandu, BellyDance Nepal is the country’s only certified dance school specialising in authentic Oriental belly dance. The organisation has been actively promoting creative performance arts while offering professional training and collaborative opportunities for dancers.

The event will begin at 6:00 pm. Ticket prices are set at Rs 600 for balcony seats and Rs 800 for floor seating. Tickets are available online.
