Kathmandu, August 27
The Nepal Bankers’ Association has said banks will make efforts to maintain banking services in areas affected by the devastating floods in the Bhotekoshi River.
The association expressed deep sorrow over the loss of lives and damage to property and infrastructure caused by the floods and other natural disasters, and said it would provide necessary support to affected customers.
The association paid tribute to those who lost their lives in the disaster. It said most bank employees working in the flood-affected districts were safe, although contact had not yet been established with 26 employees.
Several bank branches have also been affected by flooding and inundation, according to the association. Disruptions to electricity, internet and communication services have further complicated the operation of regular banking services in the affected areas.
Despite these challenges, banks are making maximum use of available resources and alternative arrangements to maintain service continuity, the association said.
The association said it was coordinating and cooperating with the Nepal government, Nepal Rastra Bank and other relevant authorities during the crisis.
It said Nepal’s banking sector remains fully committed to supporting the government’s relief, rescue and rehabilitation efforts.
The association also said banks would do their best to support affected employees, their families and members of the public.
In coordination with the government, the association said it was ready to work with member banks to provide necessary assistance and facilitate relief, rescue, service continuity and rehabilitation efforts.
