Mustang, October 6

Snow has been cleared from the Annapurna Circuit trek route.

The Thorong La Pass trail in the Annapurna Conservation Area, which links Manang and Mustang, reopened on Monday after 20 people cleared the snow on the initiative of the Muktinath Hotel Association.

Foreign tourists trek from Besisahar in Lamjung through Manang over Thorong La Pass to reach Muktinath. Muktinath Hotel Association president Suraj Gurung said the trek has been made easier by clearing the thick snow on the Thorong La Pass trail linking Manang and Mustang.

Heavy snowfall from September 24 to 27 had fully blocked the Thorong La Pass trail and halted tourist movement.

Thorong La Pass is the most suitable place for adventure trekking from October to November. Tourist trekking on the Manang–Mustang Annapurna Circuit takes place for only five months each year.

Foreign tourists prefer the Thorong La Pass section of the Annapurna Circuit, which has established itself as one of the world’s best-known trekking routes, for adventure trekking.

The Muktinath Hotel Association said trekkers travelling from Manang over Thorong La Pass to Mustang will face no problems.
