Kathmandu, September 29
Nepali Congress Executive Committee member Angelu Sherpa has announced his candidacy for the post of general secretary.
Sherpa told Onlinekhabar that he will run for general secretary at the upcoming 15th general convention. A member of the previous Central Committee, Sherpa also sits on the committee formed after the special general convention.
After the demand for a special general convention arose within the party, Sherpa had played a coordinating role in bringing the then establishment and dissident factions together. Sherpa is from Solukhumbu.
With the general convention drawing closer, more candidates are announcing their bids for office-bearer posts. Central member Pratima Gautam has announced her candidacy for joint general secretary.
Gautam, who supports the special general convention, was also a central member of the committee led by former party president Sher Bahadur Deuba. She entered party politics through the student wing and is a former chair of the student union at Padma Kanya Campus.
