ANFA executive committee meeting put off amid Three Star dispute

Kathmandu, July 27

The meeting of All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) executive committee has been put off indefinitely following a row between the members over decision to award compensation for Three Star Club.

This comes a day after committee members demanded that ANFA take action against officials whose ‘irresponsibility’ cost the club a chance to play in the second round of the AFC Cup. Three Star had qualified for the second round of the tournament following their win in Mongolia in August. But the AFC called Mongolian Erchim FC, runners-up to Three Star in the qualifiers, for the draw after ANFA did not respond to requests to confirm Three Star’s participation.

According to a member, who was present in the meeting, most of the participants demanded that those found responsible for the episode must be punished.

Members Pankaj Bikram Nembang, Bir Bahadur Khadka, Basanta Aryal and Ratna Shrestha said the leadership must look into the issue urgently. However, the leadership had a different opinion and the meeting had to be postponed.

A committee formed by ANFA to investigate the incident held staffers Gokul Thapa and Basanta Rijal responsible for the incident. The committee has also recommended that then President Narendra Shrestha and General Secretary Dhirendra Pradhan be reprimanded.

According to sources, other issues on the agenda such as resuming the national league and organising a futsal tournament were discussed in a cordial environment.
