483* aftershocks recorded in Jajarkot over the past week

Kathmandu, November 9

Jajarkot experienced another earthquake on Thursday morning. According to the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, a 4.2 magnitude tremor occurred at 3.06 am on Thursday. The Center reports that there have been 483 aftershocks since the initial earthquake struck the district on November 3.

Monika Jha from the Center reported that 483 aftershocks have been recorded since then, with the most powerful one measuring 5.8 magnitude on November 6.

The earthquake has claimed the lives of 153 people in Jajarkot and Rukum West, with an additional 364 individuals sustaining injuries. Moreover, it has destroyed 17,896 houses and partially damaged 17,580 houses.

The government has announced an initial relief package of Rs 200,000 for the families of the deceased, along with providing free treatment for the injured. Currently, efforts are underway for relief distribution and rehabilitation in the affected areas.

A team from the Department of Mines and Geology, in conjunction with the National Earthquake Monitoring and Research Center, is presently in the Jajarkot district to conduct a thorough study of the earthquake and the resulting aftershocks.
