Kathmandu, November 3

A problem in the online system has affected the registration of new companies at the Office of the Company Registrar.

For the past few days, the one-time password (OTP) required for registering a company through the online system has not reached users’ mobile phones, bringing their work to a halt.

The office said the OTP is mandatory both for proposing a name for a new company and for moving the registration process forward.

But a fault in the server of the Department of Information Technology has stopped the OTP from being generated, so the registration process could not proceed, said Nirman Kumar Karki, information officer at the Office of the Company Registrar.

After service seekers kept complaining that their company registration work was not getting done, the office said the OTP was not arriving because of a problem in the Department of Information Technology’s system.

“There have been minor problems in our internal system too, but the OTP is not arriving mainly because of a problem in the Department of Information Technology’s system during company registration,” he told Onlinekhabar. “The problem started last week on Thursday and Friday. For three days in a row, the OTP did not arrive and work stopped completely. The system worked for some time on Monday, but the problem has recurred.”

Karki said the system has not shut down completely but keeps starting and stopping at intervals. He said such a problem could occur when technical elements of the software are updated or modified.

Prakash Dawadi, information officer at the Department of Information Technology, said work is underway to fix the problem in the company registration system. He said the system will soon resume fully and company registration will become regular.
