Rain threatens both NPL matches scheduled for Saturday

Kathmandu, October 30

After persistent rain throughout Friday, both matches scheduled for Saturday in the Nepal Premier League (NPL) are at risk of being affected. Meteorologists have forecast light rain to continue until the evening.

Two matches are scheduled for Saturday. Lumbini Lions will face Chitwan Rhinos in the first match, while Biratnagar Kings will take on Sudurpaschim Royals in the second.

Meteorologist Ujjwal Upadhyaya said drizzle was likely to continue until Saturday evening. He said the weather had been favourable for Thursday’s match, but the chances of Saturday’s games going ahead were low.

“Thursday’s NPL match was lucky. On Saturday, however, drizzle is expected to continue until the evening. The chances of tomorrow’s matches taking place are low,” Upadhyaya said.

Rain has been falling in Kathmandu since late Thursday night and continued throughout Friday. Thursday’s second match, between Biratnagar Kings and Karnali Yaks, was completed despite light rain.

Rain began again as the match ended, and the ground has since been covered with protective sheets.

The NPL does not have reserve days for its matches. If Saturday’s games are called off because of rain, the results could affect the teams’ standings.

If a match is abandoned or produces no result, the two teams will share one point each.
