Marijuana has been seized from a pickup van that was carrying vegetables toward India.
The Armed Police Force took control of 570 kg of marijuana, hidden among the vegetables, from a vehicle heading to India via Jahada in Morang on Saturday night.
A team deployed from the Armed Police Force Nepal’s Border Outpost (BOP) in Nocha recovered the marijuana at Ramchowk in Jahada Rural Municipality-4 at around 11 pm on Saturday.
According to the Armed Police, the driver of the van, numbered Pra 1-01-00 Cha 7422 and bound for India, abandoned the vehicle and fled when the force tried to stop it. A search then turned up 19 packets of marijuana hidden between chayote and cabbage, said Superintendent of Police Gehendra Bahadur Bhandari, chief of the Armed Police Force in Morang.
The seized marijuana weighed 570 kg in total. The marijuana and the pickup van have been handed over to Nepal Police for investigation and action. Police said a search for the driver is underway.
