Prakash Man Singh says special convention was aimed at splitting Congress

Kathmandu, October 8

Nepali Congress leader Prakash Man Singh, who is aligned with the Sher Bahadur Deuba faction, has claimed that the party’s special general convention was held at the behest of “unseen forces” seeking to divide the party.

Singh made the statement while addressing the inaugural ceremony of the Kathmandu Metropolitan City convention of the Deuba faction on Thursday.

“This did not happen at the demand of the Congress. The special convention was held to divide the Congress at the behest of the ambitions of certain individuals and the interests of some unseen forces—forces seeking to weaken nationalism and democracy,” he said.

Describing those who organised the special convention as people who had “made a mistake”, Singh urged party members not to follow them.

He questioned whether party members should strengthen those who had made mistakes by supporting them or instead follow the path shown by their leaders and make every effort to oppose what is wrong and support what is right.

Singh said he was holding the regular general convention in line with that effort.

He added that the party would move ahead under the leadership of Sher Bahadur Deuba and the Central Working Committee by making necessary decisions in accordance with the party statute and rules.
