Inam Sapkota, an intermediary allegedly linked to suspended Armed Police Force (APF) AIG Banshiraj Dahal, remains in police custody as investigators look into the alleged leakage of confidential and sensitive information.
Sapkota is currently being held at the District Police Range, Bhadrakali, Kathmandu. Dan Bahadur Thapa, superintendent of police and spokesperson for the Kathmandu police, confirmed that Sapkota remains in custody.
“He is in our custody. We have been investigating him for the past three to four days,” Thapa told Onlinekhabar.
According to Thapa, police obtained a remand from the Kathmandu District Administration Office to investigate Sapkota on a charge of indecent behaviour. However, sources said the investigation is primarily related to the alleged leakage of information rather than indecent behaviour.
Sources have claimed that Sapkota has connections ranging from former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana to businessman Deepak Bhatta.
Rana was taken into police custody and released about 12 hours later. At the time, police had also seized and examined his mobile phone.
Following the incident, Sapkota, who has been described as an intermediary, came under the radar of the police. He was initially detained by the police’s Special Bureau and later handed over to the Kathmandu police.
The Kathmandu police are currently investigating Sapkota.
Meanwhile, APF AIG Banshiraj Dahal has been suspended, and an investigation has been initiated over allegations that he leaked confidential information through WhatsApp, including information allegedly shared with Sapkota.
