A special art exhibition titled ‘Art for Humanity’ began at the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts (NAFA), Naxal, on Monday to raise funds for relief and rehabilitation of families and communities affected by the Bhotekoshi River floods.

The exhibition has been organised to collect donations for the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund to support relief, assistance and long-term rehabilitation of those affected by the devastating flood that struck the Bhotekoshi River on August 26.

Artists, art galleries, artist groups, art and cultural organisations, art institutions, students, curators, art collectors, art enthusiasts and foreign artists have participated in the exhibition.

Of the proceeds from the sale of artworks, 70 per cent will be deposited in the Prime Minister’s Disaster Relief Fund and 10 per cent in the Artists’ Relief Fund. The remaining 20 per cent will go to the artists.

More than 200 artworks by over 160 artists are on display, representing traditional and folk art, painting, drawing, sculpture, ceramics, photography, printmaking, installation, mixed media, digital art and other forms of visual art.

The exhibition will run through October 14.

NAFA has called for participation and support for the initiative, which seeks to connect the creativity, sensitivity and social responsibility of artists with humanitarian service during the disaster.
