Singer Eleena Chauhan has urged the media and journalists to stop repeatedly linking her past and former relationship in news reports and commentary.
After social media comments began pairing her name with her ex-husband’s, Chauhan asked on Facebook that her present not be defined by past relationships.
“Let me live, let me live in my present,” she wrote. “Sometimes I see things in the news that I have never even imagined.”
Saying she has moved far ahead and left the past behind, Chauhan said that repeatedly tying old photographs and relationships to news stories reopens old wounds.
“I have put my old wounds behind me like a bad dream. Each time that past is dug up and old photos are pasted into a story, the wound is reopened,” she wrote.
She says the past is one chapter of her life, not her entire life. Please close that chapter.
She also said she does not need anyone else’s name to establish her identity.
“I say this not out of arrogance but with confidence. I do not need to lean on anyone’s name to build my identity,” she wrote.
Chauhan further warned of legal action if misleading content or material that harms her dignity is published or broadcast.
“I will now take legal action under the prevailing law against media outlets and individuals who keep spreading such misleading news that damages my self-respect,” she wrote.
