Festival security plan in Kathmandu: Over 3,500 police to be deployed

Kathmandu, October 2

Nepal Police has launched a security plan for the festival season. Police say they will deploy 3,506 personnel for it.

The Metropolitan Police Range, Kathmandu, says it has made the plan after identifying security challenges.

Police have listed the following challenges and say the plan was designed with them in mind: murder, rape, human trafficking, kidnapping, threats, pickpocketing, theft, gambling, robbery, foreign currency fraud, and spiking drinks with intoxicants.

Police have also divided the places in Kathmandu that need protection into several categories: religious, cultural and traditional sites; food grain and goat markets; crowded public places; bus parks and traffic management points; offices, banks and financial institutions; shopping malls; and jewellery shops.
