Kathmandu, September 28
A letter in which former Chief Justice Cholendra Shumsher Rana has requested police protection for his life has been made public on social media.
Speaking to Onlinekhabar, SSP Somendra Singh Rathore of the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, said that the letter from Cholendra Shumsher had not been received at the office.
However, DIG Gobinda Thapaliya of the same office said the letter had been received.
“The letter was received yesterday, on a holiday. Since it was a holiday, some colleagues may not have known. After receiving the letter regarding peace and security, we have made arrangements for protection,” Thapaliya told Onlinekhabar.
In the application addressed to the Kathmandu Valley Police Office, Ranipokhari, submitted on Cholendra’s behalf by his son Sachindra Shumsher Rana, a request was made to arrange the necessary security for the residence and family members.
A team from Nepal Police’s Kathmandu Valley Crime Investigation Office had taken Rana into custody at midnight on Saturday, citing information about a “security threat,” and released him on Sunday afternoon.
Police say the application seeking peace and security was received yesterday, Sunday, the same day he was released.
