The Nepali Congress has guests from various countries to the opening ceremony of its 15th general convention.
Along with its northern and southern neighbours, the Congress has guests from more than half a dozen countries, including the United States.
For the opening ceremony of the convention, which begins in Kathmandu on October 2, ruling and opposition parties from countries including India, China, the United States, Britain, Germany and Bangladesh have been invited.
One of the leaders given responsibility for inviting foreign guests to the ceremony said that India’s ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the opposition Indian National Congress have been invited.
According to him, an invitation has also been sent to the Communist Party of China. The Congress has also sent invitations to the Republican and Democratic parties of the United States.
Likewise, Britain’s ruling Labour Party and main opposition Conservative Party, and Germany’s ruling Social Democratic Party, have been invited.
The leader said an invitation was also sent to Bangladesh’s ruling party, the Bangladesh Nationalist Party (BNP).
“We have also invited the democratic socialist parties of Europe, the Socialist International, and the International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP),” he said.
He said the short notice and adverse weather could affect the presence of foreign guests at the opening ceremony.
Congress acting chief secretary Krishna Dulal said the guests who have been invited to previous conventions of the party have been invited this time as well.
“We have sent invitation letters to the guests we have been calling to the convention,” he told Onlinekhabar. “Confirmation from the other side has not yet come.”
