Madhesh government begins printing and distributing driving licences itself

Janakpur, September 23

The Madhesh provincial government has started printing and distributing driving licences on its own, aiming to reduce the long waiting time faced by service recipients.

The Ministry of Labour and Transport of Madhesh printed 3,081 driving licences in its first batch and handed them over to transport management offices under the provincial government for distribution.

Madhesh has eight transport management offices. Of the licences printed in the first batch, 1,172 are for the Birgunj Transport Management Office, 932 for Janakpur, 460 for Lahan, 303 for Bardibas, 119 for Gaur, 52 for Rajbiraj, 32 for Malangwa and 11 for Kalaiya.

Minister for Labour and Transport Sharada Devi Thapa handed over the printed licences to Basudev Malla, chief of the Janakpur Transport Management Office, during a press conference held at the ministry.

Thapa instructed the transport offices to distribute the licences to service recipients as soon as possible.

She said the provincial government’s decision to print licences itself would reduce the waiting period for people who have already completed the required procedures.

“Now that the Madhesh government has started printing and distributing licences itself, service recipients will not have to wait for a long time,” Thapa said.

The ministry’s acting secretary Ranjit Yadav and other officials were also present at the press conference.

The provincial government said the move is aimed at making driving licence distribution more efficient and reducing delays in the service.
