The Rastriya Prajatantra Party (RPP) will hold its provincial conventions on October 7. According to party spokesperson Mohan Kumar Shrestha, who also heads the party’s Publicity Department, conventions in all seven provinces have been scheduled for that date.
He said district-level conventions have so far been completed in 72 districts. The RPP’s central general convention is set to take place in Kathmandu from December 12-14. He said preparations for the provincial conventions began once the district conventions were completed.
“The schedule called for finishing district conventions by the third week of September. The August 26 flood affected the timeline somewhat. Flood-affected Rasuwa, Nuwakot, and Dhading have been given until October 1 to hold their conventions,” he said. “The party has also directed Jumla and Dhankuta, which still need to hold theirs, to complete them by October 1.”
He said the election committee for the provincial conventions has already assigned election representatives to the provinces.
According to Shrestha, central election representatives have been assigned as follows: Bharat Pathak for Koshi, Rajaram Shrestha for Madhesh, Pro. Jayanta Nath Khanal for Bagmati, Amrit Pudasaini for Gandaki, Toran Bahadur Gurung for Lumbini, Ramanand Neupane for Karnali, and Shyam Bahadur Shahi for Sudurpashchim.
Under the RPP’s constitution, participants in the provincial convention will include representatives selected by district chairs and district working committees, representatives selected by the regional chairs and working committees of House of Representatives constituencies, and representatives selected by the chairs and working committees of Provincial Assembly constituencies.
Chairs of municipal and rural municipality working committees will also be able to participate as representatives at the provincial convention. Similarly, the deadline for applying for active membership and submitting details for the central general convention has been set for October 1.
