Kathmandu, September 21
A 63-year-old woman who was rescued 11 days after being swept away by the Rasuwa flood is undergoing treatment at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital in Kathmandu.
Chandika Shrestha is receiving treatment in the hospital’s Plastic Surgery Department after she was rescued from her own house, which had been swept away by the flood.
Doctors involved in her treatment said Shrestha sustained injuries to her right knee and thigh. She is scheduled to undergo skin grafting on Monday to cover the wounds on her body.
“Her health condition is currently normal. Since the injured areas need to be covered with skin, we are planning to perform skin grafting on Monday,” a doctor involved in her treatment told Onlinekhabar.
The doctor said Shrestha may need to remain in the hospital for another one to two weeks even after the grafting procedure.
According to the doctor, the transplanted skin may take around seven to 10 days to properly attach to the wound.
“After the operation, the grafted skin needs time to settle. It can take at least seven to 10 days for it to properly take. So she may have to stay in the hospital for another one to two weeks,” the doctor said.
Shrestha was rescued on September 5, 11 days after she was buried inside the house that had been swept away by the flood.
Her house was originally located around 70 metres behind the location of another house in the area. The flood swept her house away and carried it another 50 metres downstream, where she was eventually rescued from the remains of the house.
