Printing of vehicle driving licenses has begun through the Electronic Driving License and Vehicle Registration System (EDLVRS), which the government implemented on June 15.
The Department of Transport Management, under the Ministry of Infrastructure Development, launched the printing process through the new system to address service-seeker congestion and the long-standing problem of license printing delays.
The new system will make both new license issuance and renewal faster, smoother, and more service-oriented. Under the arrangement, applicant details uploaded to the EDLVRS go directly to the Security Printing Press, which prints the licenses and sends them via postal service to the respective Transport Management Service Office.
The ministry says this will resolve the long-standing problems with license printing and distribution.
In the first phase, 3,081 driving licenses from Madhesh Province have been printed and sent through the postal service to the relevant Transport Management Service Office for distribution. Provincial governments have also been given the option to sign their own agreements with Surakshan Mudran to handle printing independently.
Accordingly, the Madhesh Province government has signed such an agreement with Surakshan Mudran and is managing its own license printing. Similarly, the Lumbini Province government also signed an agreement with Surakshan Mudran on Friday and has begun printing driving licenses.
In provinces that have not signed agreements with Security Printing Press, license printing is being coordinated between the Department of Transport Management and Surakshan Mudran directly, taking into account service-seeker congestion and related issues.
With license printing now underway through the new system, responsibility for printing is being managed province-wise, putting into effect a system meant to provide driving licenses to service seekers more conveniently, quickly, and on time.
