Kathmandu, September 18
Nepal Rastra Bank has introduced a new Rs 50 banknote into circulation from today, retaining the existing size and colour of the denomination while incorporating several new features.
According to a notice issued by the central bank’s Currency Management Department, the new notes carry serial numbers ranging from ट २४ ०००००१ to ण ७० ९९९९९९.
The front of the new note carries the promise text stating that Rs 50 will be paid immediately by Nepal Rastra Bank upon demand, with payment guaranteed by the Government of Nepal.
The left side of the note features an image of Mount Everest, while a rhododendron watermark appears on the right. A watermark of the numeral ‘50’ is also placed below it.
The lower section of the note carries the series year 2082 in the Bikram Sambat calendar. The note bears the signature of Nepal Rastra Bank Governor Prof Dr Biswo Nath Poudel.
The new banknote also contains a 1.2-millimetre-wide security thread woven into the paper. When viewed against light, the thread becomes fully visible and carries the inscription ‘NRB’.
On the reverse side, the central section features an image of a snow leopard, with ‘NEPAL RASTRA BANK’ written above it.
The lower section of the reverse side carries the inscriptions ‘RUPEES FIFTY’ and ‘2025 A.D.’
Earlier Rs 50 series
Nepal Rastra Bank said it had previously issued a notice on July 6, 2020, announcing that Rs 50 notes from the 2019 series, bearing serial numbers from ज ८९ ०००००१ to ट ३३ ९९९९९९, would be put into circulation.
However, according to the central bank, only notes with serial numbers ranging from ज ८९ ०००००१ to ट २३ ९००००० were actually brought into circulation.
