11 arrested for letting Nepalis gamble at casino

Kathmandu, September 15

Eleven people have been arrested on charges of allowing Nepali citizens into a casino to gamble.

The arrests were made at Garuda Casino in Taulung, Budhanilkantha Municipality-1, over allegations of letting Nepalis play card-based gambling games there.

Those arrested include Bikky Lama, 34, of Gokulganga Rural Municipality-6, Ramechhap; Nuwang Sherpa, 39, of Makalungla Rural Municipality-3, Solukhumbu; Pasang Sherpa, 39, of Dudhkunda Municipality-9, also of Solukhumbu; Jyoti Magar, 32, of Golanjor Rural Municipality-5, Sindhuli; and Narayan Khatri, 35, of Baiteshwar Rural Municipality-8, Dolakha.

Also arrested were Dil Lama, 44, of Kathmandu; Ashok Lama, 44, of Roshi Rural Municipality-1, Kavre; Sanjay Tamang, 32, of Dupcheshwar Rural Municipality-3, Nuwakot; Ashish Khadka, 40, of Umakunda Rural Municipality-4, Ramechhap; Sabin Man Shrestha, 49, of Lalitpur; and Sudip Adhikari, 30, of Jorpati Rural Municipality-4, Dhankuta.

They were arrested Tuesday afternoon in a joint operation by the Kathmandu Ring Road Police and the Budhanilkantha Police Circle. Police recovered Rs 1,085,600 in cash and some casino chips/coins from them. The District Administration Office has extended their detention by two days for further investigation.
