Government to reclaim land identified as encroached by Rawal Commission 31 years ago

The Ministry of Land Management, Cooperatives and Poverty Alleviation and the Ministry of Federal Affairs and General Administration have decided to register in the name of the Government of Nepal all government and public land identified as encroached upon by the Rawal Commission in its 2052 BS report.

A committee formed by the ministry to implement the report had submitted its recommendations. Based on the report, the ministry decided to collectively deduct the areas identified as having been encroached upon from the concerned land parcels and register them in the name of the Government of Nepal.

The ministry also decided to collectively register in the government’s name the land parcels whose entire area was identified in the report as government or public land.

The implementation committee is coordinated by Chief Survey Officer Ramesh Gyawali. Its members include an undersecretary from the Ministry of Home Affairs, an undersecretary from the Ministry of Physical Infrastructure and Transport, the chiefs of the Land Administration Office and Survey Office in Dillibazar, the chief of the Local Level Coordination Section, a section officer from the Department of Land Management and Archives, and a survey officer from the Department of Survey, who serves as the member secretary.
