Foreign investors are increasingly showing interest in Nepal’s information technology sector, with the majority of projects receiving foreign investment commitments in the current fiscal year concentrated in IT.

According to the Department of Industry, 727 out of 1,116 projects for which foreign investment commitments were received in fiscal year 2025/26 are related to the information technology sector.

The department said foreign investors have committed around Rs 5.8 billion for the projects.

Among the other sectors, 63 projects are in manufacturing, four in energy, 18 in agriculture, 227 in tourism, 71 in services and two in infrastructure.

The Department of Industry said around Rs 6 billion was committed for 842 projects in the previous fiscal year, 2081/82.

According to department information officer Suresh Dahal, foreign investors tend to choose sectors based on their investment interests.

He said the volume of investment commitments varies because some projects require significantly larger amounts of capital.

“The investors choose the sectors in which they are interested. Some projects require large investments, so the total investment amount tends to be higher,” Dahal said.
