The District Administration Office has distributed 60 gas cylinders found stored at Madhyapur Banquet in Madhyapur Thimi to locals.
The cylinders were distributed following an inspection led by Chief District Officer Binod Kumar Khadka on Thursday evening.
The banquet operator said he had brought the gas from Chitwan only on Thursday, as there would be a large number of banquets and parties at the venue in Asoj. He said the gas was distributed to people in need at the request of the local administration.
Meanwhile, district police have arrested two people on charges of black-marketing gas cylinders.
Rajesh Karmacharya, 41, was arrested from Itachhe in Bhaktapur Municipality-2 with 14 Sagar gas cylinders. Police also arrested Umesh Sah, 25, operator of Sarlahi General Store in Brahmanagar, Suryabinayak Municipality-3.
Sah, a permanent resident of Barahathwa Municipality-7 in Sarlahi, was arrested after police received information that he had been selling gas cylinders for Rs 2,800 each. Police seized 75 Himal gas cylinders from his shop.
