Nepal-China trade through the Korola border point in Mustang has increased following the closure of the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border crossing after the devastating Bhotekoshi flood on August 26.
Before the disaster, an average of 8-10 containers passed through Korola daily. However, the number of containers using the route has increased since the disaster.
According to the Armed Police Force (APF) 33 Company Headquarters in Jomsom, 252 empty containers travelled to Korola via the Beni-Jomsom-Korola road between August 26 and September 3.
Similarly, trucks carrying goods from China have completed customs clearance at the Mustang Customs Office and proceeded to their destinations, according to APF DSP Deepak Koirala.
With the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung border crossing disrupted by the disaster, containers originally scheduled to enter Nepal through that route have been diverted to Korola, he said.
However, Mustang Customs Chief Bidur Chudal said cargo diverted from the Rasuwagadhi-Kerung route to Korola had not yet arrived there.
