Heavy rain has been falling in Kathmandu since the evening, pushing up water levels in rivers and streams across the Kathmandu Valley.

The water level of the Bishnumati River has risen close to the danger mark, according to the Flood Forecasting Division. The Gongabu water measurement station recorded the river approaching the danger level.

With the river continuing to rise, the division has urged residents living on the banks of the Bishnumati to remain highly alert until morning.

The Department of Hydrology and Meteorology’s river monitoring system is currently tracking river levels across the country.
