More than 25 workers have been trapped inside a tunnel of the Langtang Hydropower Project.
Bijay Mohan Bhattarai, managing director of the company and secretary of the Independent Power Producers’ Association, Nepal (IPPAN), said the workers are trapped inside the tunnel of the 20 MW hydropower project.
According to him, the workers were carrying out work in a section of the tunnel located about 100 meters above the river level. They have not yet been rescued, and contact with them has also been lost.
“I tried to go there myself by helicopter, but no helicopter was available as all of them have been mobilised by the government,” he said. “Government agencies need to step up rescue efforts.”
He said around 60 workers had been working at the project. Complete information about all the workers is not yet available.
“We have received information that the employees working at the headworks are safe,” he said. “We are trying to find out the status of the others.”
